Scavenger Hunt

My friend wanted to help me with this assignment and took me to this skate park near her house. I kinda crept on some strangers and took a couple of action shots. I chose this one because I like the composition. I love that he's airborne and the fact that he has his arms stretched out just makes him look like he's flying.
This particular evening the sky was just gorgeous. I wanted to take some shots of the colors in the sunset and wound up with this. I really like the simplicity of it as well as the silhouettes of the trees and train station.
I chose this shot because I really liked the angle. I also liked how only the hand was in focus rather than her whole body.
I really like that his head isn't in the shot. It sort of abstracts him. I like how he's placed in the air, it's almost as if he's dancing or something.

  1. In this group of photos, I am most interested in your sense of timing and movement. You expertly capture the awkward positions of the body in relationship to the edge of the frame. The camera angle in the third image exaggerates the body and creates a graceful movement that follows the contour of your subject’s arm as it falls from her shoulder to her fingers. The awkwardness of the body is most exciting in these shots. If you decide to shoot skateboarders again, you might consider excluding the board from the frame, thereby emphasizing the body movement and adding a level of mystery to the subject. As you shoot, continue to work on framing and composition. Engage the edges of the frame in your compositions. Get physically close to your subjects, rather than relying too much on your zoom lens. The second image, for example, pictures a very strong silhouette. However, the image might have been more compositionally interesting had the silhouette engaged the top edge of the frame. As you develop your own photographic style, draw on you strengths: your sense of movement and timing. Good work. I look forward to seeing more images!
